Our History and Funding Report
We began humbly in August 1997 by a few friends operating out of the founder’s home. Since that time, we have grown to a staff of 75 and an annual budget of approximately $4 million.
We have succeeded in helping over 3,000 children achieve a loving, lasting family.
We are primarily supported by purchase-of service contracts with child welfare agencies, state and federal grants, foundations and United Way. Individual and community contributions are also critical sources of funding.
We strive to remain fiscally sound and accountable to the public: our administrative costs comprise only 14% of our total annual operating budget.
All of our services are provided free of charge and are given based on the individual needs of the child or family and are provided until a satisfactory resolution has been reached.
We are diverse: 77% of our staff is female and 30% of our staff is African American.
We have received numerous national and regional awards: In 2005, we received a prestigious Goodwill Power of Work Award for our workforce development efforts. Additionally, The Pittsburgh Business Times named us a finalist in the Community Outreach category and ARC Allegheny (Achieva) gave us the Organization of the Year Award. Nationally, agency founder Susan Davis was featured on ABC Primetime and Every Child was featured on a nationally distributed film produced by the Dave Thomas Foundation on adoption for older children.
Overall, we receive a 95% satisfaction rate from families for our services and from professionals/organizations we serve.
