Waiting Children...

 Israel

Israel is a very sweet, inquisitive, fun-loving young man. He loves to learn and enjoys teaching others about subjects he feels strongly about. He is a creative, inquisitive young man who loves to draw and learn about the Titanic. His favorite animal is a fox. He enjoys using the internet, going on walks outside, and watching TV programs such as PBS Kids Go. His favorite subject at school is science, but he also enjoys lunchtime and recess. Israel has a great deal of potential and is eager to join an adoptive family.

Israel gets along well with other children, though he can have a difficult time sharing toys and attention with other children. He has a great sense of humor and enjoys having one-on-one time with adults.

Support Groups and Why They Are Important

Why are support groups important? Families need a place to go to talk to their peers. While family services are important these folks need to be able to talk to someone who “has been there”. Some one who can sincerely say I know what you are going through. They need to be able to say “I have tried everything I can think of. How did you get through it?” If the group does not have an answer there is always someone who says, “Call me, I will go through it with you.” Do support groups have all the answers? Of course not. Can they be a comfort to a family in need or crisis? Absolutely!!

Because of the work we do here at Every Child Inc., we are always in contact with families. The Pittsburgh and Southwestern PA area has many support groups that are always looking for families and individuals. Here are a few ways you can find information on support groups to help your families.

Try a search engine, Google, Yahoo etc…For adoptive and foster families try www.taplink.org or www.3riversadopt.org and go to their links page.

One last bit of advice: once you have found a group go visit a meeting yourself. Call the contact person and let them know why you are coming. If they do not welcome YOU, do not recommend them to your family. You can tell your family or individual “I went to the meeting, this is what they can offer you”. They will be eager to go if they know you have gone that extra mile for them.

Please call 412.665.0600 and ask for Palma Bennie if you have any other questions about finding a support group.
